Statement

I approach the process of painting with little forethought. My work usually involves experimentation and often produces accidental or chance results. I like to work and rework multiple layers of paint. The painting, repainting and scraping away of these layers leads me in many new directions not unlike the archaelogical process of discovery. I often use antique, vintage and recycled materials. These aged materials provide me with inspiration. The yellowing of an old piece of paper or the texture of a well worn piece of fabric are a welcome deviations from the standard artistic materials.

My work has always been drawn towards the many aspects of the human condition. I have particular interest in the physical and psychological effects of disease. The fragility and suceptivness of the human mind and body to the internal and external forces that manipulate it. I am currently examining these tendencies in my work to better understand and interpret their significance and meanings. I am hopefull that this process will allow me to render even more effective imagery.
